Judith Hinchey

Judith Hinchey

1939 - 2025

Judith Marie Hinchey (nee Holgate) passed away on May 12, 2025, at the Magog hospital palliative care unit. She was born in Belleville Ontario in 1939 to George and Verna Holgate. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Dr. Edward John Hinchey, her children David (Carine), Dawn (Dan), Deb (Brad) and grandchildren Josh, Joey, Luke and Olivia.

Judy was a graduate nurse who worked evenings in the emergency room of the Montreal Children’s hospital and supported her husband while he did his residency in surgery at the Montreal General. She stopped work to raise her children and did an excellent job. Judy had an amazingly big heart, an incredible amount of empathy, a great sense of humor and brought so much joy to people that knew her. She was an artist, a fantastic cook, a bridge player, animal lover and enjoyed gardening and numerous crafts, but her family always came first. In her earlier years, she loved to ski, host dinner parties, cheer her kids on from the sidelines, and swim in her beloved Lake Memphremagog. In the later years, Judy and John spent time travelling and living in their home in Austin, often remarking on how lucky they are to have lived in this beautiful place. Judy loved being « Nany », and found so much joy in being with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

A special thank you to the palliative care team in the Magog community and the Magog hospital palliative care unit, the love and care they showed her truly helped to make her last few months enjoyable and offered immense comfort to her family.

Donations in her memory may be made to Fondation Hôpital général de Montréal et la Fondation de l’Hôpital Memphrémagog.
